General information

Tamarind is a household name is a must in each and every kitchen not only for the tastebuds but for its therapeutic benefits also. Native to Africa, Tamarind is grown all over the world. It is used for various culinary purposes. Leaves are anti-microbial in nature and hence a decoction of leaves are used for bathing purpose in feverish conditions by the Tribal people of Africa. The fruit is a mild laxative in nature and is therefore beneficial in gastrointestinal diseases. It also possesses anti-inflammatory properties and is useful in controlling the pain in joints and muscles.

Contraindications

Tamarind is extremely safe. It has been used in large quantities as a food with no adverse reactions. However, persons with allergic symptoms should avoid Tamarind. Unusually large amount of Tamarind consumption may result in stomach upset. Consult your doctor before consuming this herb in Pregnancy.
