Fenugreek

FenugreekSanskrit name: Methika
Botanical name Trigonella Foenum Graecum
Habitat: This all-season herb is found in wild and extensively cultivated in India. It has triplets or oval leaflets. It blooms yellow white flowers in the summer and has aromatic seeds. Used through the ages by Indians, Egyptians, Greeks and Romans for medicinal and culinary purposes.

  • Virya (action): Hot
  • Vipaka (post-digestive effect): Pungent
  • Doshas (constitutions): Balances Vata and Kapha

General information

The scented seeds of Fenugreek contain Vitamin A, B1, C, Iron and Minerals which are helpful in treating irritable bowel syndrome, cataract, kidney stonesand also helps in relieving pain and swelling, however, it is best known for its antidiabetic activity.
